Description
Trying to make out the faded writing across the front of this long closed store I thought I had figured out that it might be Nunan's Butchers. I did a google search and came across a newspaper from 1951 that had been digitised and shared online. The Benalla Ensign Thursday 8 March 1951 listed the events for the Devenish Jubilee Sports to be held at the Recreation Ground, Devenish on Saturday March 17 1951. Event 8. Horse over Hurdles was sponsored by T Nunan and Sons, butchers. So I found my answer.
Devenish is a small village in North East Victoria, Australia, the population of the town and surrounding area at last census was 360. There is still a General Store/Post Office, a Hotel run by the community and a school.
