Description
The Olgas also known as Kata Tjuta. Kata Tjuta is the Aboriginal name, which means "many heads. It is a group of more than 36 rounded red domes rising from the desert floor. The tallest is said to be around 546 metres high. Kata Tjuta is about 30 kilometres west of Uluru. The nearest town is Alice Springs NT about 450km away.
Walpa Gorge Walk is a short, easy stroll that leads up a rocky, gentle slope and then into a shady, moist gully. It ends on a viewing platform between the towering domes. Walpa means windy in the local Pitjantiatjara language.
This photograph was taken the same day as my image "The Olgas", it was an overcast day and the photograph taken from a distance shows these rock formation in more shades of purple than red. Only when up close could I see the magnificent red colors which so distinctly characterizes the Australian outback.
